Category: Idea Lists (Upon Request)
<!-- gdoc-inlined -->
1. Mountain View vs. Redmond
- This is fairly decisive. ML community, Startup environment, youth.
- Culture
- Age of co-workers
- Energy level
- Density of Quality Researchers
- Level of Researchers
- Breadth of Interests
- Ability to Publish Research
- Contact with future cofounders and employees
- Reputation to be leveraged
- Friendships
- Growth through side projects, influence, social, spiritual, etc.
Pro MSR:
- Density of quality researchers
- Breadth of opportunity
- Sense of freedom and collective exploration of ideas
Negative MSR:
- Contact with the ml community
- I want to start a set of groups
- Lifestyle - roommates I would live with in the bay
- Friendships
- Growth through side projects, influence, social
- Lacks a sense of collective purpose… very atomized
I did a lot of due diligence on brain, talked to people who had been in both places.
I see myself there, but with a family. Once I fit into that demographic space. If I didn’t want the option to start a company, I would likely choose it over Brain - it’s a more free research environment. There are larger scale goals that I have, which will require many people oriented towards a single task. Being embedded in the bay makes that much easier.
